February 2025 Jobs Report: Tech Hiring Holds Strong Amidst a Stable Labor Market
The latest jobs report reaffirms a steady national labor market while highlighting continued strength in tech hiring. The U.S. economy added 143,000 jobs in January, slightly below expectations, but upward revisions to previous months signal overall stability. The national unemployment rate edged down to 4.0%, further reinforcing this steady trend.
Tech, however, continues to outperform the broader economy. The sector’s unemployment rate remains low at 2.9%, and tech job postings show clear signs of momentum. Denver saw a 15.9% increase in tech job postings from December to January, while Dallas surged by 24.5% in the same period. Notably, hiring for dedicated AI/ML roles is expanding rapidly, making up over 10% of tech jobs in San Francisco and 17% in San Jose.
With tech job postings rising and AI-related hiring accelerating, the sector is poised for continued growth in Q1 2025. While overall job growth remains measured, the demand for tech talent—especially in emerging fields like AI—continues to expand, making it a bright spot in an otherwise stable market.
